Ways to Know How and When You Should Implement an Antibody Titer Test at Your Clinic

Measuring antibody levels is becoming more common in veterinary practices but surprisingly enough, it is still confusing for many vets. Here’s what you need to know.

For a puppy or kitten, vaccination does not necessarily mean immunization. Rather, a genetic non-responder situation, high maternal derived antibodies that interrupt vaccination, and poor vaccine immunogenicity (a vaccine malfunction), can all lead to a poor immunity response and a lack of antibody protection.

Using titer testing to measure antibody levels at least four weeks after a puppy or kitten vaccination series has been completed can help validate their protection.

By measuring antibody levels, unnecessary re-vaccination procedures (such as boosters) can be avoided, especially when treating geriatric, chronically ill, or immunocompromised pets, contributing to their overall well-being.

How to measure antibody levels?

Validating a patient’s antibody levels and immunization has never been simpler thanks to VacciCheck, Biogal’s reliable and versatile IgG dot-ELISA-based system for the confirmation of core disease immunity in dogs and cats.

VacciCheck can also help you determine the level of antibodies and assess previous vaccines in adult pets.

In order to help you delve into the world of antibody titer testing at your clinic, we’ve prepared a road map which contains all the information you’ll need. Check it out to learn when, why and how to use VacciCheck in your practice and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
